On November 10th, 2022, Vice President Du Peng of Renmin University of China attended the 5th China-New Zealand Higher Education Forum and delivered a keynote speech. The forum is organized by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). Chen Dali, Vice Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of China, Fu Bo, Under Secretary-General of CEAIE, Dong Zhixue, Counselor of Education of Chinese Embassy to New Zealand, Michael Zhang, Counselor of Education of New Zealand Embassy to China, and Chris Whelan, CEO of Universities New Zealand attended and addressed the forum.
Leaders, experts and scholars from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Victoria University of Wellington and University of Waikato shared thoughts on “Sustainable Development of Higher Education”, “Transformation of Higher Education in a Digital Context in China and New Zealand” and “Sustainability of Talent Cultivation and Academic Exchange”.
Vice President Du Peng delivered a keynote speech on the green and sustainable development of higher education. He stressed that as an integral part of the green and sustainable development, universities should incorporate ecological conservation and sustainable philosophy into the whole process of their operation, which is a multifaceted and systematic project involving talent cultivation, scientific research, school governance and international exchange. Based on RUC practice, Du Peng noted that it’s important that universities improve their talent cultivation system and provide qualified students for innovation-driven green development; build platform for collaborated innovation in an effort to provide intelligence support for green and sustainable development; continue to upgrade digital application in school governance as a motivator for internal sustainable development; and give full play to extensive and in-depth international exchange and cooperation with an aim to contribute wisdom and strength to the green and sustainable development of mankind.
Before the forum began, Fu Bo, Du Peng met with Michael Zhang and others to exchange views on China-New Zealand cooperation.
